What is an Internal Quality Assurer?

An Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) checks the work of assessors to ensure everything meets the right standards. They monitor the assessment process, give feedback to assessors, and help improve training quality. You’ll often find IQAs working in colleges, training providers, and workplaces where vocational qualifications and apprenticeships are delivered.

IQAs are responsible for keeping standards high. Common tasks include:

Sampling Learner Work: Reviewing assessed work to make sure it's accurate and fair.
Supporting Assessors: Giving feedback, advice, and guidance.
Standardisation: Making sure all assessors mark to the same level.
Meeting Regulations: Ensuring qualifications meet awarding body and regulatory requirements.
Helping Improve Quality: Spotting areas for improvement and supporting best practice.

To become an Early Years Practitioner, you’ll typically need:

Level 2 or Level 3 Childcare Qualification: Qualifications such as the Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce or the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) are essential.
GCSEs: Some courses may require GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above. It’s advisable to check specific entry requirements with your chosen training provider.
